Wan

Wan is Alibaba's open-weight video generation family offering versatile, cost-effective production across four specialized variants: general generation, character-driven motion, character swapping, and video editing.

The Wan family leverages open weights to deliver capable video generation for everyday production. Wan 2.6 is the general-purpose model supporting text-to-video and image-to-video. Animate Move takes a character reference image and a motion reference video, producing new footage where the character follows the reference motion. Animate Mix (Character Swap) replaces a character in an existing video with one from a reference image. VACE Video Edit enables V2V editing with up to three reference images for guided style and content changes. All variants are designed to be practical for high-volume workflows without compromising on output quality.

Tips & Best Practices

Use Wan 2.6 for quick T2V drafts before committing to premium models.
For Animate Move, pick a reference video with slow, distinct motions for best transfer fidelity.
When using Animate Mix, ensure the replacement character image matches the pose angle of the video subject.
Layer VACE edits incrementally — apply one reference at a time to keep changes controlled.
